Class Description

This class will teach the techniques and details that make the classic Chanel jacket as designed by Coco Chanel.  The sewing course will encompass 2 classes per week for 3 weeks.  Students  will start by bringing their jacket muslins to class, for Claire to fit, cutting  pieces and discussion of the quilting process for students to complete at home.  The 2nd week classes will cover finishing quilting and preparing the jacket for assemblage.  The 3rd week will be demos and instruction on finishing techniques and various methods and ideas used to give that signature Chanel jacket look.

As a bonus for all participating students we will have an afternoon at Helen Enox fabrics with Claire who will be happy to help make suggestions for fabric, lining, notions, trim and pattern ideas.  Additionally Helen Enox will give participating students a serious discount on purchases that afternoon at the store.

What expertise do you need for this class?

Creating a Chanel Jacket is considered the penultimate garment to create, however amazingly enough it doesn't not require a laborious degree or study.  It does require a great deal of time.  There are basic construction skills, such as the knowledge and competency to assemble a jacket that are required, but once you know this, you need a block of time and the knowledge of the Channelisms to complete the jacket.
